Pioneering CO2 storage – Responsible green transition

“The local authorities and companies on Lolland have welcomed us, and we are experiencing a positive dialogue about Project Ruby, also among the residents in the area. Over the next two years, we will continue to explore Lolland’s underground and keep the public informed as the Project progresses. We hope our studies will show that Ruby can be delivered to the highest standards..”

Ken Wesnæs, CEO, CarbonCuts

Why work with CarbonCuts?

It is CarbonCut’s clear ambition to develop competent and sustainable climate solutions, like Project Ruby. As a pioneer in the CCS sector, we work to develop and deliver safe and efficient solutions. We collaborate with all relevant parties, authorities and stakeholders, including our owner, BlueNord, and Nordsøfonden, our governmental partner in Project Ruby.

The Ruby Project:
– An important contribution to Denmark’s climate strategy

The Ruby Project is a pioneering initiative in onshore CO₂ storage at Rødby on Lolland. The ambition is to establish a safe and permanent CO₂ storage facility deep under the subsoil of South Lolland – a key part of Denmark’s climate strategy. With the full backing of the authorities and a state exploration license, the initial studies are already ongoing.

The project builds on close collaboration with stakeholders across the entire CCS value chain. By combining decades of subsurface experience and technological expertise, insights from the development of complex mega projects and strong partnerships, Ruby aims to create a positive climate impact and economic value – for the benefit of owners, partners, Lolland, and for Denmark.

The Ruby Project is financed by CarbonCuts (80%) and the Danish state via Nordsøfonden (20%). CarbonCuts is a subsidiary, 100% owned by BlueNord, which is also a partner in the Danish North Sea activities.

Here you can read about the project goals, timeline, current activities and the technology used and find more information about carbon storage. CarbonCuts seeks to promote dialog with the local community and other stakeholders during all stages of the project.

A sustainable investment in the future

Project Ruby is a long-term investment in the growing CCS sector and an important part of the green transition. As a pioneer in carbon management and storage, CarbonCuts is working with various stakeholders to develop one of the world’s first onshore CO2 storage facilities. At the same time, we want to contribute to local development and green growth. It is our ambition to develop and operate a sustainable project that helps Denmark reach its climate goals.

Future
projects

At CarbonCuts, we continuously work to identify new opportunities for carbon management and storage as well as related climate technology activities in Denmark and beyond. It is crucial to us that any future projects are sustainable, scalable, economically efficient and based on strong partnerships.
